Apple vs. Microsoft

Ok.  I know I said I would keep tech talk out of this blog.  Well, this is one of those that just has to sneak in.  The debate over Microsoft and Apple.  Sigh.

I am a software developer that primarily works with Microsoft technologies on a daily basis.  I am a fan.   Until recently I was not a fan of Apple.  Don’t get all excited, it’s not like I’m going to drop Microsoft and develop strictly in Objective C.  I’m simply tired of the bickering.

With the recent announcement of the Apple iPad, the chatter is at an all time high.  The Apple fan boys are convinced this is a “game changer”.  The Microsoft fan boys can do nothing but find faults in the device.  STOP THE MADNESS!!!!!!

I came to the conclusion that I don’t like Apple because I’m not supposed to like Apple.  Just like any other competing technology that I don’t use on a daily basis.  I think it’s also fair to say that a little part of me doesn’t like Apple because of all the Apple fans that will hear nothing of anything but their beloved brand.  But wait.  That sounds very familiar.  Wow, come to think of it Microsoft fan boys are the same way.  Maybe that is why Apple fans are so hell bent against Microsoft.  Let’s drop the banter and admit that we are different, we do different things better than the other and there is plenty of room for both of us.

My wife now has an iPhone and I have to admit, it is quite possibly the best user interface on a mobile device that I have ever used.  I have long used a Windows Mobile phone, because I’m supposed to.  The difference between the two is night and day, but that is another post.
